November Rain in Mumbai

November Rain in Mumbai

It's November and it's raining in Mumbai. This is quite unexpected because monsoon in Mumbai lasts from June to September. The weather was cloudy for two days. The weather was quite different this year and it also rained less. I hope there won't be much water cuts in the city.

I was coming back from work today and There were lot of traffic jams because of the rain. I saw people using their umbrellas and also raincoats while going back home from their offices. I can't understand how did they get their umbrellas because it was not raining in Mumbai in morning. These people must have some good weather prediction skills.

Anyway, it was good fun as weather has become good. This rain also reminded me of my favorite Guns N roses song called November rain.

Mumbai Monsoon is here.

Monsoon in the June month was not good. I would rather say that there was not much rain in Mumbai. Monsoon has arrived now and we have a received a break from the warm summer of India. It's raining now while I am writing this blog and weather has become very pleasant in Mumbai. I read in the newspaper that there are still water cuts in Mumbai because the lakes that provide water to Mumbai have not been completely filled because of late monsoon.

I feel they will be filled up soon as rain is consistent for past one to two weeks.

Warm humid Weather in Mumbai

It's really warm in Mumbai and May month is almost ending. Just like me every Mumbaiite must be waiting for the monsoon. Monsoon in Mumbai lasts from June to September however the major monsoon starts in July. I have read in the newspaper recently that there is going to be high tide on July 24 this year and this high tide can be dangerous. I hope this high tide in Mumbai doesn't create a problem like we had on July 26 deluge when thousands of people were stranded and people were stuck in their offices.

Still, I feel the monsoon should arrive soon because I feel that the monsoon is the best season in Mumbai. Lot of people will agree with me. It's real fun to go near sea side and enjoy monsoon. The monsoon first arrives at Kerala, south indian state and then the south west monsoon winds move upwards. Just waiting for this warm humid weather to get over.

Terror attacks Aftermath

I am happy that the terror attacks in Mumbai are over. Me being a resident of Mumbai had to go through horrifying hours just like everyone else in Mumbai. My eyes were glued to the television as i was getting impatient and wanted the terror attacks to get over.

All I can say is this was an insane attack and lot of innocent people were killed. These confused stupid terrorist should understand that whatever they are doing will not do any good to them and also to the people who are getting killed.

I visited Marine Drive to see Trident hotel. Only could see few lights on in the hotel and also lot of people lighting candles on Marine drive promenade for the people who died. I feel this is also an intelligence failure and such irresponsible things should not be expected from the government. It is still hard to believe the fact that these people came on a boat from the sea.

I would like to salute the martyrs police officers and also the Major of NSD who laid their lives for our freedom.

Taxi and ricshaw strike in Mumbai.

It was 16 October 2008 and i heard a news when i woke up. I got to know that there is a strike in Mumbai. There was a Taxi and rickshaw strike in Mumbai. I looked down from my home and I saw people stranded as everyone where getting late for office. My freind who usually travels from a rickshaw had to go by a bus and he told me there was a long queue.

Even i was a victim of this strike. My cousin had come to Bombay and he had some important work in Peddar road. I couldn't recommend to travel by train to him as trains are usually crowded and i expected the trains to be more crowded.

Anybody who comes from another part of India is shocked after the sight of crowded trains. People travel like sardines during the peak hours. Although new initiatives are being taken by the government and a metro rail will be ready soon, which will connect the central suburbs and and western suburbs of Bombay.

I was in a fix as my car was also in the garage. I thought about a thing and decided to hire a private taxi. Private taxis are expensive however I had to hire them as I didn't have any other option.

The private taxis must have made lotta money that day. One positive thing about this was there was not enough traffic on the road. This was a very nice site to see.

All I want to say is that, there should not be strikes like these as the common man is affected and there is also huge losses for the taxi drivers and countries economy.

Fort

I was recently in downtown Mumbai which lot of people call the 'town'. This is one of the coolest place anyone can be even if it is a warm day. As I am in a rock band, I was walking after getting off from CST station and took a walk from GPO towards Colaba. I was supposed to go to Colaba.

It was a warm day and I decided to walk as I wanted to enjoy the scenic beauty of the fort area in Mumbai. All I can say is that I was not disappointed. I was very happy that i took a walk in the afternoon because I saw beautiful structures such as the "town hall" library.

This is the library which is used as a court in most of the Indian movies. Opposite to this place is Horniman Circle, a beautiful garden where anybody can sit and enjoy the breeze. Horniman circle reminds me of my college days as I used to sit there after bunking lectures.

It's a very nice experience to sit on a bench and read a book under the tree whenever you are in Horniman circle. Even if somebody doesn't like reading anything, one can just watch people passing by. You will notice that everybody is very busy and rushing to their work place.

I saw lot of boys playing cricket on the streets as it was Sunday. Cricket is most popular sport in India and also in Mumbai. Sachin Tendulkar is one of the best batsmen in the world. He is from Mumbai. There were not enough vehicles on the road as it was a holiday.

Anyone can a take a tour at these places in a car or a bus however this place is best enjoyed when you are taking a walk. I would suggest trying this whenever you are in Mumbai.

When you are walking towards Colaba via Horniman circle from CST or VT, you will get a good view of the city that was made by Britishers.

I finally reached Colaba and treated myself with a coke and this walk has become one of my best memories.

Vada Pav

If anybody who comes to Mumbai (Bombay) should definitely try a vada pav. A vada pav is available in most of the streets in Mumbai and is very delicious and tasty. It's made of vada which is made of potatoes. 'Pav' is made of bread.

The cost of vada pav is very nominal and you can get one for six rupees. Whenever you will eat it you'll feel that vada pav is melting in your mouth. I used to eat it when i was a kid in the school. I still eat it and everyone should try it who is new to Mumbai.
